CELEBRATING ZERO WASTE WEEK
Zero Waste Week will be globally observed from September 1-7 2025. Zero Waste Week is an annual campaign which encourages people, businesses, and other organizations to embrace the 9 Rs of proper waste management including:
· Refuse: Avoiding products that generate waste in the first place, like single-use plastics.
· Rethink: Making products more use-intensive through sharing, or designing for durability and multi-functionality.
· Repair: Fixing broken items to extend their lifespan.
· Refurbish: Restoring old products to a good working condition.
· Remanufacture: Integrating intact components from discarded products into new ones with the same function.
· Repurpose: Incorporating discarded components into a completely different product for a new purpose.
· Recover: Generating energy from waste through processes like incineration with energy capture or anaerobic digestion.
· Regift: Giving an item to someone who can use it before recycling or discarding it.
· Rot: Composting organic waste.
At WestPoint Hospitality, we embrace the 9 Rs by encouraging recycling and reuse across our daily operations. The Bahrain plant recycles about 85% of all manufacturing wastes while the Chipley, Florida plant recycles about 75% of all manufacturing wastes. Manufacturing wastes include metals, cardboard, chemicals, textile scraps, etc. Our offices also have recycling programs for electronic waste, batteries, aluminum cans, plastic bottles among other waste streams.
We encourage all of our Hospitality customers to seek a reuse outlet for their end-of-life textiles through donation to local charities like animal rescue organizations. Also, we offer a low cost small scale solution for your end-of-life textiles called the Waste to Want program. For further information on this program, please reach out to textilerecycling@wphome.com.
