How to reduce wrinkles…
A universal problem shared by all property owners…WRINKLES.
The obvious answer- ironing.
Commercial laundry and larger hotels that own semi-automatic processing equipment usually have continuous ironing machines. These machines have sets of rollers that are heated and aligned such that sheets can be inserted between them fully opened/extended while they are wet. The pressure from the rollers and the heat combine to dry the sheet as it passes through the “nip” or the point at which the top roller and bottom roller touch. The dry sheet also experiences ironing effects as the wrinkles are pressed out in the process. Many of these ironing machines also have automated folders attached to fold and stack the sheets.
There is another option! This option often requires training housekeeping staff in updated methods for drying but has proven to be effective. For hotels that use commercial size “tumble” dryers that do not have ironing, the best practice is to program the dryer to stop when the moisture level in the fabric is 8-10% range and fold the sheets immediately. The low level of moisture combined with the tension from folding will minimize the wrinkles. Never leave sheets piled in a laundry bin. Wrinkles will not come out until the sheets are processed again or ironed.
Remember- while we all love the softness of cotton, polyester is our friend too. It helps reduce wrinkles, which makes microfiber appealing.
