Comforters vs Filled Blankets

Comforters vs Filled Blankets

Filled Blanket or Comforter

At first look, you may only see a slight difference between a filled blanket and a comforter.

Both are great for use as an insert for duvet covers or triple sheeting. Both use similar types of fill whether it be feathers, down, or polyester as an alternative to natural fills. Both use quilting to keep their fill in place and maintain a smooth, uniform appearance on the surface.

So, what are the differences?

Filled blankets tend to have less fiberfill and offer the user flexibility in creating the desired level of warmth in the sleep environment. Blanket quilt stitching is typically a 6” box compared to an 8”-10” box for a comforter or duvet insert. The smaller box helps reduce the movement of fiber into other areas of the blanket. Reduced fiber migration keeps the blanket flat and provides a more tailored appearance when a top sheet is tucked under the mattress. Our queen blankets range from 18 oz to 33 oz fills.

Comforters are full and lofty compared to filled blankets. The extra loft comes from more fiberfill ranging from 46 oz to 56 oz in our queen-sized comforters. Comforters can be used in conjunction with a top sheet that is tucked underneath the warmth layer, or they can be used as a duvet insert. In both cases, they provide more warmth than filled blankets and are typically used in colder climates to provide a warmer sleep environment.
