What is the Difference? OEKO-TEX Standard 100 & OEKO-TEX STeP

WestPoint Hospitality operates two independent manufacturing plants that provide the majority of our Hospitality products including our famous Martex® sheets. One plant is located in the Florida panhandle and the other is located in the Kingdom of Bahrain. While the plants may be worlds apart in location, our Company proudly celebrates that both plants carry OEKO-TEX® 100 and OEKO-TEX® STeP certifications. In fact, our Florida plant was the FIRST textile plant in North America to earn the OEKO-TEX® STeP certificate several years ago. But what exactly are these two certifications and what do they mean to our customers?

OEKO-TEX® 100 certified products have been third-party tested for hundreds of chemicals and deemed HARMLESS to human health straight out of the package.

An OEKO-TEX® STeP certified facility means the entire manufacturing plant has been third-party certified to adhere to high environmental standards as well as extensive fair labor practices. It also means that the plant has committed to a continuous process improvement plan in all operating areas and is working to lower its carbon footprint.

Because BOTH of our manufacturing plants have earned BOTH of these certifications, every product from each plant is eligible for the Made In Green label which provides a transparent supply chain for those products. When you see the Made in Green label on a product, it means the product, the manufacturing plant, and the supply chain are TOP NOTCH.

If you’re buying products from other companies that do not carry the OEKO-TEX® 100, OEKO-TEX® STeP, and/or the Made in Green label, you may need to ask more questions from your supplier about the safety of their products and their environmental commitment to excellence.

If you have any questions about these certifications or our successful sustainability story, please contact our Environmental Director at julie.seel@wphome.com.
